Classic Honda Racer auf SMALL WHEELS

small-wheels racerEin Bike ist solange ein Projekt, solange es noch nicht sein Gummi auf Asphalt gesetzt hat. Michael Kugler, seines Zeichen Mitglied im Vorstand der Honda Dax und Monkey IG e.V., hat frei nach einem aktuellen Werbespruch einen klassischen Honda Racer zu seinem Projekt gemacht. Nur hat er sich statt für grosse Räder natürlich für die Small Wheels in 8 Zoll entschieden und konsequent Teile für das Monkey-Racer Puzzle gesammelt.

Geschichte der RC 112

Mit dem Einstieg in den Rennsport und sogar speziell 1961 im Bereich der “Schnapsglasklasse” hielt Soichiro Honda ungerührt an seiner Devise Viertakt-Motors fest. In den größeren Klassen gab ihm der Erfolg Recht, nur bei den 50er war die Welt noch zwischen Kreidler und Suzuki aufgeteilt.

Honda RC110Die RC 110 und RC 111 waren innovative Maschinen mit einem Einzylinder Viertakt, 40mm Bohrung und 39mm Hub. Mit 2 oben liegenden Nockenwellen und einer Verdichtung von 10,5 : 1 entwickelte der Motor eine Leistung von 9.5 bhp bei 14.000 U/Min. 9.5 bhp entsprechen dabei umgerechnet ca. 9,63 PS oder “neuzeitlich” 7,08 kW! Von diesem 50er Motorrad wurden 1962 auch eine Strassenversion mit einem 5-Gang Getriebe und Kickstarter, auf dem im Rennsport verzichtet wurde, gebaut.

Honda RC111Zum Frankreich GP wurde die Bohrung auf 40,4mm erweitert, was einen Hubraum von 49ccm ergab. Erst zum Isle of Man Rennen 1962 wurde der Typ dann Honda RC111 genannt und hatte weitere Modifikationen wie u.a. ein 8-Gang Getriebe. In den weiteren Rennen der Saison 1962 wurde der Einzylinder mit verschiedenen Entwicklungsstufen an den Start gebracht, aber erst zum letzten Rennen in Suzuka, Japan, erschien dann die wirklich konkurrenzfähige Honda RC112 zu ihrem ersten und – leider auch – einzigen Rennen.

Der einzige Sieg

Honda RC112Als kleiner Twinmotor war sie ein technisches Meisterwerk mit jeweils 33mm Bohrung und 29mm Hub. Ihre 10,14 PS (gleich 10 bph oder 7,46 kW) lieferte der Twin bei unglaublichen 17.500 U/Min ab. Das Ergebnis machte die RC112 legendär – Tommy Robb gewann in Suzuka und bescherte damit HONDA den einzigen Sieg bei 50ccm im Jahre 1962.HONDA RC112 Frame

Kugi’s Projekt 2009

Kugis Inspiration Monkey RacerAuf Basis eines 36 Jahre altem HONDA-Rahmen (Z50A K3, 1972), der restauriert und konserviert wurde, hat Michael Kugler die notwendigen Teile akribisch gesucht und zusammengetragen, um sein Projekt eines klassischen Racers auf Monkey-Bais entstehen zu lassen. Als Inspiration diente ihm dabei ein ähnliches Projekt aus dem fernen Osten. Langer Tank, Höckerbank, zurückverlegte Fussrasten – es ist soweit alles da, was die Optik eines Racers ausmacht.

Die ausführlich bebilderte Aufbau-”Anleitung” auf seiner Website lädt zum Verweilen und ggf. Wieder-Inspirieren ein. Auf das endgültige Ergebnis kann man gespannt sein…
